UArctic-HIT Training Centre
Mission
Our mission is to “Strengthen the understanding, friendship and collaborations of the students and faculty between the Arctic and non-Arctic universities by providing a unique and advanced platform for cooperative educational and research opportunities.”
Goals
To make UArctic-HIT-Training Centre a hub organization bridging UArctic and its members in China;
To broaden the voice and to expand knowledge of the UArctic in China.
To establish an Arctic-related education system for students in China; and
To carry out Arctic-related research by collaborating with Arctic universities.
Activities
To respond adequately to our mission and goals, UArctic-HIT-Training Centre will take following activities for the period 2019-2021:
1.To make UArctic-HIT Training Centre a hub organization bridging UArctic and its members in China
The staff of the UArctic-HIT Training Centre will be trained to be familiar with the mission, goals, and values of the UArctic, and carry out their work under these mission, goals, and values;
To build a strong network among UArctic members in China.
To collect views and suggestions from UArctic members in China towards the UArctic and report them to the UArctic; and
A meeting will be organized in HIT for the UArctic leadership members and the representatives, professors, and students of non-Arctic members to discuss common interests and values and future collaborations.
2.To broaden the voice and to expand knowledge of the UArctic in China
To give presentations to the UArctic member institutes and UArctic members in China and on the UArctic mission, goals, and values, and encourage other Chinese institutions to join UArctic where relevant; and
To build science popularization and education capability, and to publish cultural products on the Arctic to improve public knowledge and awareness towards Arctic.
3.To establish an Arctic-related education system for students in China.
To provide training courses for the faculty of Arctic member institutions in China;
To organize International Arctic Summer/Winter School every year to recruit students from both Arctic members and non-Arctic members of UArctic;
A special financial support will be provided to Arctic indigenous students to attend the Summer/Winter School;
To provide Arctic courses to students from UArctic member institutes, especially to Chinese UArctic member university students; and
To merge the Arctic-related education system established under UArctic-HIT Training Centre with the UArctic north2north program.
4.To carry out Arctic-related research by collaborating with Arctic universities
To train students with basic research ability, measurement and analysis methods of old and emerging POPs, for example;
To organize international polar academic workshop/forum/conference annually; and
To encourage non-Arctic member institutes to participate the Thematic Network and carry out the joint projects.
