Harbin Institute of Technology has officially joined the University of Arctic

2018 UArctic Congress meeting is convening in Finland, on 3th – 8th September 2018. Harbin Institute of Technology has officially been elected to be a voting member of the alliance of arctic universities.

A total of 21 institutions are applied to join the University of Arctic (UArcitic), among which 15 are from the arctic members, 6 are non-arctic members. HIT is one of success applicants among four non-arctic universities. After Professor Li’s presentation in the election session, the President of UArctic announces HIT successfully joined the UArcitic, unanimous voted. Joining the UArcitic will promote the cultivation of arctic research talents in HIT, and provide a significant platform for enhancing international exchanges and collaboration with the UArcitic member, which will facilitate the construction of "Double-first class" disciplines.

The UArctic is an alliance, consisting of the circumpolar universities and research institutes, which is led and supported by the Arctic Council. The UArctic was founded on 12 June 2001, including more than 200 members from Arctic members and non-arctic members.

Professor Li Yifan, the deputy director and chief scientist of International Joint Research Center for Arctic Environment and Ecosystem (IJRC-AEE), faculties in his research group, and delegations from other department of HIT participated the congress meeting.
